What is ProtectBuy?
ProtectBuy is our Three Domain Secure (3DS) customer authentication solution that validates consumer identity at time of purchase and provides a real-time required action for high-risk transactions.
If a transaction is challenged, a one-time-use password is sent to the cardholder in near real-time—to help ensure the sale is not fraudulent while avoiding shopping cart abandonment.
How ProtectBuy works
Our 3DS customer authentication solution ensures secure transactions across mobile, desktop, gaming consoles, connected devices, and more. Here’s how:
The cardholder enters their Discover® account details after initiating the transaction.
The merchant sends an authentication request through the 3D Secure program.
The issuer completes a risk assessment and sends the authentication result to Discover® Global Network.
The merchant submits the authentication results along with their authorization.
